Besides club evenings and nights, the programme consists of open conversations, curatorial work, screenings, artist talks, film production, panels, concerts, performance art, Drag, wine tastings, ale, and sometimes food. Things that are nice for the whole being. Since 2018 Karmaklubb* has realised more than 250 projects, among them hosted events of various sorts in addition to launching an extensive number of other projects on- and offline. Karmaklubb* is also a publishing and research platform, the IGWTLI publishing (established in 2018), that exists as essays, letters and gifts, transcripts, experimental written encounters, in addition to listening sets, podcasts, and an archive of ‘thought & pleasure’ — and new forms constantly to be explored. Critical reflections as well as pure joi (sic), anchored in the Karmaklubb* ever morphing and transcending practice with people being part of the travel. Partners and collaborators include museums, artist driven initiatives, print houses, publishers, a wide range of organizations and individuals working within the fields of arts and culture, rights and freedom of speech, as well as gastronomy and nightlife.

Frozen Jungle

Frozen Jungle is a new queer and multicultural club concept with the main goal of bringing sounds and experiences from the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa together. With distinctive sounds from the electronic, but also the familiar rhythm, bass and melodies from the world’s continents and dance-styles from all corners of the world.

Genres ranging from Mahragan, Tabla, Acid-Techno, Afrohouse, Amapiano, GQOM, Brazilian Funk, House, Trance, and Psychedelic Trance, you will never know what awaits you. Frozen Jungle was formed on the basis that there has long been a need in Oslo’s club scene to get a sense of belonging on the dance floor for people with a multicultural background. Our goal is to create a safe dance decolonized space, a sense of belonging and a sense of pride the second you walk in the door.

This concept is about putting minorities and their vision on the map and to collaborate across cultures in both musical, cultural and artistic style. It will be able to help raise the experiences of sonic sounds and club life in Oslo to a whole new level. Frozen Jungle is organised by Refel Abeid.

Oslo-based DJ Nefertiti has made the city dance to African and Arabian rhythms for decades. She is not into labelling her sound but as she says, it “impossible not to move your body” . Norwegian-Somali Idil took the DJ name Nefertiti in 2009, when she decided to bring underground electronic sounds from the middle-east and Africa and transpose them for western ears. She experienced that the Oslo scene, which was rich in a lot of other music, lacked arenas where African and Arabic music could be danced to. It was very well received, and she has since had her own club nights as well as an active DJ schedule.
