It’s not often we get to record a live performance at Jaeger, but when Melkeveien stopped by last week for the official release party of Hockey Pizza, they graciously let us keep the tape turning. We captured an electric night with the group, where they played with their new formation featuring Embert Johnsen on keys, John Birkeland Hansen on drums and Kristian Møller Johansen on synths, computer and sampler.
As a live band they sound incredibly tight and with each musician physical playing their instruments it adds a unique dimension and energy to the Melkeveien sound we’ve come accustomed to through releases like Peter Pan Death Wish and Søve på Det.
From the ghostly screams of the audience echoing faintly through the recording, it’s clear the sentiment was unanimous. Playing selection of songs from their back-catalogue; some familiar favourites, some unreleased hidden gems and of course the two brand new tracks from the Hockey Pizza, Melkeveien travelled the musical cosmos last Friday night.
